| DIY stabilizer camera |
This is a DIY (low tech) camera stabilizer in the form similar to MERLIN. I use most of the materials used or surplus. Function depending on the balance. A piece of aluminum 1/8 inch to form a camera platform. An aluminum torch over to act as a handle. It's not the ideal shape for the hand, but the head of the gimbal ball bearings allow to be held in place satisfactory. A curved aluminum tube screwed to the camera plate holds the steel washers used as a counter weight. The pictures here are experiments over a period of time, and the dimensions and configuration of different balance from time to time.
An important element of the design is a gimbal, and I developed my own design low friction universal joint used in combination with small ball bearings.
